The major challenges of our modern lives are to balance the tasks that weigh on our shoulders, how not to be crushed by the machine, and how not to let go of control. Overburdened people feel constantly behind. Tasks postponed due to one deadline will be avenge the next. Overcoming the vicious circle would be possible through reforms, yet, despite all our attempts, again and again we face the same situation. A reform is usually considered against an already ongoing processes with an excess of disadvantages and a lack of advantages. Reforms are attempts at reversing, or at least accommodating, this ratio. Such a task, however, requires immense self-control, hardly an inexhaustible resource. Targeted psychological and sociological research show the greater effort we strive for change, the more likely we are to become exhausted and lose control. Self-control works like muscles, more energy consumption causes more weariness. This may explain why real reforms are so difficult to achieve, why we become slaves to our conditions and why we keep entrapping ourselves, instead of leaving this cycle of a stringent situation.

Seemingly at least, powerful effort and strong will is enough to surpass the status quo only until it dissolves in it.
